May We Humbly Repent!

photo-1457139621581-298d1801c832

I first started blogging about a decade ago.

I blogged for a year or two and then I felt led by the Lord to stop. In 2021, I started blogging again. I have blogged pretty consistently for the last year or so. This will be my last blog for a while. I am stopping because I am sensing from the Lord it is time to stop. I imagine the Lord will have me pick this up in the future. When that happens, I will happily blog again.

My last blog for a while is going to be about the state of our country, as well as the state of the church in our country. I must warn you. If you offend easily, this blog is not for you. I am not going to pull any punches on this one.

We are in a mess. When I look around, it would be very easy for me to be discouraged. Our government seems to be in disarray. Neither side of the aisle seems to be very kind to the other side. Our politicians seem more devoted to getting reelected than they are to doing what is right. They continue to drive our country further and further into debt.

The climate in this country seems to be getting angrier and angrier by the day. People don't have the work ethic like they used to in this country. There is a significant lack of integrity. We have made gods out of racism, greed, and sexual immorality. It just grieves my heart.

Every week I have some aspect of sexual immorality confessed to me. I used to not understand why Leviticus 18 was in Scripture. Surely people would not commit those kind of sexual acts. But I was wrong. If it involves sexual immorality in Leviticus 18, I have had it confessed to me, not kidding. It is so sad and so perverse!

It's one thing for it to be this way in culture, but this is exactly how it is inside the church as well.

All the while, it just feels like the American church is silent. American Christians are experiencing mental health challenges at an all-time high, and too many churches stand by and don't even try to address these issues.

Many American Christians are racist, and their church congregations tolerate their racism.

Many American Christians die on the altar of a political party, and many of our churches encourage this type of behavior.

Many American Christians are in crazy amounts of debt. Greed is not behind this for all people, but it is behind it for many. Yet again, the American church rarely touches on this.

The same can be said for lots of other things, but the last thing I want to focus on is sexual sin.

American Christian Leaders don't want to believe the sexual perversion in the church is as bad as it is. However bad we think it is, it's probably worse.

We treat marriage like a contract, not a covenant. That's why we tolerate divorce. We minimize looking at porn and going to strip clubs and even try to not call it adultery because it's not an actual "physical affair". But when we do this we ignore the words of Jesus in Matthew 5. He tells us if we lust after someone in our heart, we are committing adultery.

We have ministers addicted to porn, and we do hardly anything to help them. We have kids getting phones younger and younger and do not educate the child or the parent on the harmful content available to them. The end result is kids looking at porn at 8, 9, and 10, maybe even younger.

Our country thinks homosexuality and transgender is okay, and it happened on our watch.

At this point, if you have lasted this long through the blog, you might be thinking this guy is jaded and angry.

I don't know. Maybe I am. But I know this. Jesus got angry in the Gospels when the temple, His Father's House, was being mistreated.

I am just angry and saddened that we are where we are. Maybe you are too. I don't know. Maybe as you read this, you may find yourself feeling very discouraged. That would be understandable. I find myself there at times as well.

In those discouraging times, I want to look up. I lift mine eyes to the Hills. Why? My help comes from the Lord!!!!!!!

Before we can look up, we must look down, like face down prostrate on the floor. WE MUST HUMBLE OURSELVES BEFORE GOD AND REPENT!!!!

It's at this point in the blog, I would turn our attention to Daniel 9:3-18. In verse 3, Daniel says:
So I gave my attention to the Lord God, to seek Him by prayer and pleading, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed, and said, “Oh, Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and faithfulness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, we have sinned, we have done wrong, and acted wickedly and rebelled, even turning aside from Your commandments and ordinances. Moreover, we have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our leaders, our fathers, and all the people of the land.
“Righteousness belongs to You, Lord, but to us open shame, as it is this day—to the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and all Israel, those who are nearby and those who are far away in all the countries to which You have driven them, because of their unfaithful deeds which they have committed against You. Open shame belongs to us, Lord, to our kings, our leaders, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You. To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, because we have rebelled against Him; 10 and we have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in His teachings which He set before us through His servants the prophets. 11 Indeed, all Israel has violated Your Law and turned aside, not obeying Your voice; so the curse has gushed forth on us, along with the oath which is written in the Law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him. 12 So He has confirmed His words which He had spoken against us and against our rulers who ruled us, to bring on us great disaster; for under the entire heaven there has not been done anything like what was done in Jerusalem. 13 Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us; yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord our God by turning from our wrongdoing and giving attention to Your truth. 14 So the Lord has kept the disaster in store and brought it on us; for the Lord our God is righteous with respect to all His deeds which He has done, but we have not obeyed His voice.
15 “And now, Lord, our God, You who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and made a name for Yourself, as it is this day—we have sinned, we have been wicked. 16 Lord, in accordance with all Your righteous acts, let now Your anger and Your wrath turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; for because of our sins and the wrongdoings of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become an object of taunting to all those around us. 17 So now, our God, listen to the prayer of Your servant and to his pleas, and for Your sake, Lord, let Your face shine on Your desolate sanctuary. 18 My God, incline Your ear and hear! Open Your eyes and see our desolations and the city which is called by Your name; for we are not presenting our pleas before You based on any merits of our own, but based on Your great compassion.
Could we start off by just acknowledging how far we have fallen, and could we fall on our face and repent before a Holy God?

Could we choose to obey the Lord God each day? Could we see all that is going on around us and seek His FACE?

Would we beg God to turn His anger from us? May we appeal to His great compassion? Could we request mercy from God, and could we do this with a posture of humility?

That's what God has put on my heart for this last blog. When He leads me to write again, I will.

I end with a prayer.

Oh God, HAVE MERCY ON US! May those in the American Church repent!!!! Would that repentance start with me!!!!!! I love you, Lord Jesus!!!!!
